Performs best in well-drained, low-fertility soil in full sun to partial shade. More heat- and humidity-tolerant than the species. Remove flowers to enhance the effect of foliage. It requires ample moisture and good drainage. Remove old foliage in early spring. Divide every 3-4 years.
